Conference venueThe Conference venue is the Exactum building in the Kumpula campus. The campus is located about 4 kilometers north of the centre of Helsinki. Click here to open a map of the campus. The street address of the Exactum building is Gustaf Hällströmin katu 2b, but the entrance to the building is from Pietari Kalmin katu; see the campus map. The lectures (except the public lecture on the life of Lars Ahlfors) take place in Auditoriums A111, B123, and CK112 on the ground floor of the Exactum building. The registration desk is located at the lobby of the Exactum building. The desk will be open on Monday (August 20) from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and on Tuesday (August 21) from 8:30 am to 12:00 am. The conference office is located in the 3rd floor of the Exactum building, rooms C327 and C332. It is open from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm on Tuesday-Friday.
Public transportation from Helsinki city centre to the Kumpula campusThe Kumpula campus can easily be reached from Helsinki city centre by bus or tram. Perhaps most convenient are trams no. 6 and 8 which run from the city centre (take direction "Arabia"). The tram stop nearest to Kumpula campus for both no. 6 and 8 is "Kyläsaarenkatu". This is marked with the letter "A" in the campus map. Also, buses no. 55, 68, 70, 71, 71V, 75, and 77 run from the Railway station to the direction of Kumpula campus. The bus stop "Kumpulan kampus" is marked with the letter "G" in the campus map. All bus and tram tickets can be purchased from the bus and tram drivers. (Note that the driver need not accept bank notes bigger than 20 euro.) A single ticket valid for both buses and trams costs 2.20 euro and is valid an hour. A single tram ticket, with a right of transfer to another tram within an hour, costs 2.00 euro. Schedules and routes for buses, trams, and metro can be conveniently searched by the Journey Planner. How to get from the airport to Helsinki city centre and to your hotel
To city centre (central Railway station)By Bus: Take the bus no. 615, 615T (or any bus starting with 615) from the bus stop outside the airport terminal. The bus will take you all the way to the bus terminal stop which is by the Railway station. The whole bus ride takes about 45 minutes and costs 3.60 euro (you can transfer to another public transport vehicle within 80 minutes). The bus leaves every 20 minutes from 5:35 AM until 1:05 after midnight on Monday to Friday; and on Saturday and Sunday from 6:05 AM to 1:05 after midnight. By Finnair bus: from the airport to the Finnair terminal next to the Railway station. This bus will make fewer stops and is a bit faster, and it costs 5.20 euro (the ticket is valid in the Finnair bus only). The bus also leaves every 20 minutes from 6 AM to 1 AM.
To Hotel ArthurThe hotel is less than 500 meters from the Railway station.
To Scandic Grand Marina
Walk from the Railway station to Aleksanterinkatu
(less than 500 m.) and take tram no. 4 to the direction "Katajanokka" for 4 stops (or about 5 minutes),
to get off at Kauppiaankatu stop, and walk to the hotel about 200 meters.

To Hotel AVA
Take the bus no. 615 (or 615T) from the airport and get off at Mäkelänrinne stop after about 20 minutes
(ask the driver to show you the right stop). Walk to the hotel about 400 meters.

To Hostel AcademicaTake the bus no. 615 (or 615T) from the airport and get off at Vilhonvuori stop after about 20-25 minutes (ask the driver to show you the right stop). Take tram no. 8 to the direction "Salmisaari" to get off after 9 stops (or about 15 min.) at the stop "Perhonkatu", and walk to the hostel about 100 meters. See the map. Note that tram no. 8 operates from about 6 AM to about 11 PM! Alternatively, you can take airport bus all the way to the bus terminal stop at the city centre. After the bus, you can either walk to the hostel (about 1.2 km), or walk to the tram stop "Lasipalatsi" on Mannerheimintie street (less than 300 m.) and take tram no. 3T for 2 stops (or about 3 minutes), to get off at "Kauppakorkeakoulut" stop, and walk to the hostel about 400 meters. By TaxiThere is a shuttle service Airport taxi service (Yellow line) from the airport to the Helsinki area. Regular taxi from the airport to hotels in the city centre will take about 30 to 40 minutes and costs around 35 euro. If you prefer, after the airport bus has taken you to the bus terminal at the city centre, take a taxi to your hotel. The cost would be around 10 euro.
How to get from your hotel to the Kumpula campus?Hotel AVA is within walking distance (about 1.5 km) from the campus. The receptionist of the hotel can show you the way.
From Hotel Arthur. Take tram no. 6 from the Kaisaniemi stop to the direction "Arabia" and
leave the tram after 10 stops (or about 15 minutes) at the stop "Kyläsaarenkatu".

campus map.
From Scandic Grand Marina. Take tram no. 4 from the hotel to the direction "Munkkiniemi", and leave the tram after 5 stops (about 6 min.) at the stop "Ylioppilastalo" (close to Stockmann department store). Change to tram no. 6 (the stop is on Mannerheimintie street), going to the direction "Arabia". Leave the tram after 12 stops (about 20 min.) at the stop "Kyläsaarenkatu". The tram stop is marked with the letter "A" in the campus map. Allow at least 40-45 minutes for the whole journey. From Hostel Academica. Walk about 100 m. to the tram stop "Perhonkatu" on Mechelininkatu street and take tram no. 8 to the direction "Arabia." Leave the tram after 14 stops (about 20 min.) at the stop "Kyläsaarenkatu". The stop is marked with the letter "A" in the campus map. The campus is located on the small hill across the street left from the tram or bus stop. On the hill there is a white radar bulb on the top of the Physicum building. Walk up the hill and you will see signs directing you to the conference area. |
