Social Program

A number of social events will be organised to make your stay in Helsinki enjoyable. Since the number of participants for some of the events is limited, you are kindly asked to make your reservation in advance upon the on-line registration.

Monday, August 20

The City of Helsinki has the pleasure to invite the participants with their registered accompanying persons to a cocktail reception at the City Hall.
Free admission for registered participants and accompanying persons. Please, sign in upon registration.

Tuesday, August 21

All participants and registered accompanying persons are cordially invited to the Public lecture on the life of Lars Ahlfors given by Academician Olli Lehto and to the reception of the University of Helsinki after the lecture.
Free admission for registered participants and accompanying persons. Please, sign in upon registration.

Wednesday, August 22

On Wednesday afternoon the participants can choose between three different excursions to places around Helsinki. All excursions last appr. six hours and include a dinner.

For practical reasons we must limit the number of participants for each excursion, and we therefore ask you kindly to arrange them according to your preferences.

1. Porvoo (The Baltic Sea)

We go first by bus (40 min.) to Porvoo, the 2nd oldest city of Finland, have a sightseeing of the city, and some free time. Return to Helsinki by the museum ship J.L. Runeberg along the Baltic Sea coast. Dinner on board.

2. Tuusula (Culture)

A cultural tour to the beautiful town of Tuusula. We visit Ainola, the home of the famous Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. The house with its interior is preserved intact as it was at the time when the Sibelius Family lived there. We also visit the Halosenniemi museum, once the studio home of the Finnish painter Pekka Halonen. The studio is made of red pinewood and represents the National Romantic style in the Finnish countryside.

Dinner at the Lake Tuusula area. Possibility to have a Finnish Sauna (to be confirmed).

3. Nuuksio (Nature and the Finnish sauna)

SOLD OUT

An excursion to the Nuuksio National Park. Hiking in the forest (appr. 3 kilometers; easy, but depending on the weather conditions). Light dinner, and a possibility to experience the Finnish sauna and swim in a lake.

Friday, August 24

Conference Dinner at the restaurant Kalastajatorppa

The Conference Dinner will be held at the Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa's restaurant in one of the most beautiful maritime areas of Helsinki. Bus transportation is included in the price.
