TRAVELLINGAIRPORT. The Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport is situated about 15 kilometers north of Helsinki city center ( = area around the main railway station). The local buses 415, 451 and 615 run between the city center and the airport (price 3,40 eur, pay to the driver). In addition there is a (slightly more expensive, 5,10 eur) Finnair shuttle bus between the airport and the main railway station. The trip from the airport to the railway station takes about 30-40 minutes by bus. A usual taxi would cost about 35 eur. A limousine service (the yellow "Airport taxi") is a little cheaper; you travel together with 4-5 other persons. Here you can find local information about the airport.
HOTELS AND HOSTELS.
The hotels Anna and Arthur and both of the hostels are situated in the
city center. To reach them from the airport, see above.
CONFERENCE SITE. The conference site is the Main building of the University of Technology, auditorium E, street address Otakaari 1. It is in Otaniemi, city of Espoo. To go to Otaniemi from the Helsinki city center, you can use the buses 102, 102 T or 103. The trip takes about 15 minutes. The buses start from the Kamppi bus terminal which is about 300 meters west of the main railway station. It is on the ground level of a shopping centrum, and still partly under construction. To find the bus terminal, look for signs "Linja-autoasema/Busstation", and once in terminal, look for buses to Espoo/Esbo. The buses 102 and 102 T start form the platform 41. In Otaniemi, get off at the Main Building of the University of Technology ("TKK" in Finnish). MAPSTO FIND YOUR HOTEL OR THE CONFERENCE SITE write the street name (e.g. Annankatu) of the place in question to the "Street search" in the left upper corner of this page . (You then have to select one of the given more detailed adresses on the left hand side of the page.) You can move the map as you like.TO FIND DETAILED MAPS OF THE BUS ROUTES choose this page. See below for the fares in each cases. The price of the card itself is 7 euros (not refundable). When buying the card, ask to have a certain amount of money (you decide how much) stored in the card. Then you can travel until this amount is used. If necessary, you can buy more saldo at an R-kioski (of course, you do not need to pay the 7 euros again). In the bus, tram or at a metro station, you show the travel card to the electronic reader, and simultaneously press either 0 in case you only go by tram 1 in case you use a bus but stay in the same city 2 in case you cross the border of two cities, e.g. Helsinki and Espoo. Your payment is valid for one hour, and during that time (in the cases 1 and 2 above) you are allowed to make an unlimited number of changes of lines. Example. You travel from your hotel in the Helsinki city center to Otaniemi. Take a tram to the Kamppi bus terminal. In the tram, show your card to the reader and press "2". A green light should appear in the reader. In the bus 102, only show the card to the reader, but do not press anything. A green light should appear again, indicating that you still have valid travelling time. Two (or more) persons may travel simultaneosly with the same travel card. Just press twice (or more).
