  Research

I am a mathematical ecologist with interest in adaptive dynamics, speciation, evolutionary epidemiology, spatial ecology and life histories.

I am an Editor of Evolutionary Ecology Research
Associate editor of Evolution (2014-2016)
Associate editor of Theoretical Population Biology
Reviewing Editor of the Journal of Evolutionary Biology (2006-2009)
Secretary of the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (2006-2011)
Member of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Analysis and Dynamics Research (2008-2013, 2014-2019)
Member of the Faculty of 1000 (section Theoretical Ecology) and Advisor of F1000Research (Ecology)

Teaching

I value good teaching as much as good research, if not more. I have lectured at the Eötvös University (Budapest), at the University of Turku (Finland) and at the University of Helsinki (Finland) on mathematical modelling, theoretical ecology, evolutionary biology, population genetics, and quantitative genetics, both to students of biology and of mathematics.

o       Introduction to mathematical biology (for students of mathematics; Helsinki, spring 2011; fall 2012; fall 2014; next time fall 2016)

o       Mathematical methods in biology (for students of biology; Helsinki, every other year, 2005-2006, 2007-2008, 2009-2010, 2011-2012, 2013-2014; next time 2015-2016)

o       Spatial models in ecology and evolution (Helsinki, fall 2006, spring 2009, spring 2013, spring 2015; next time spring 2017)

o       Mathematics of infectious diseases (Helsinki, fall 2013; next time fall 2015)

o       Speciation theory (Helsinki, fall 2008; fall 2010; fall 2012; fall 2014; next time fall 2016)

o       Adaptive dynamics (Oslo, 2008 spring; Vienna June 2007; Budapest, 2003 spring; Jyväskylä summer school, 1999; short courses/lectures: Gothenburg March 2014, Jyväskylä Winter School of Ecology 2014, Helsinki summer school 2012, EMS-ESMTB summer school 2011, FroSpects winter school 2011, Uppsala Dec 2009, Helsinki summer school 2008, Fourth Winter School on Population Dynamics, Woudschoten (The Netherlands), January 2002)

o       Other courses

o       Quantitative Genetics (lecture notes in Hungarian)

o       Population Genetics (lecture notes in Hungarian)
